The Madawaska Valley Public Library has a non-circulating local history collection of books (Renfrew County census, local cemeteries listings) and other materials (including some microfilm) relating to the people and history of the area. We also have a copy of the Barry’s Bay newspapers-the Barry’s Bay Review from June 3,1959 to April 8,1965 and the This Week in the Madawaska Valley from 1971 on and the Barry’s Bay This Week to present date. These materials do not circulate but may be looked at in the library upon request.
The library also has a microfiche and a microfilm reader (no print capability yet) and many free genealogy sites book-marked on the Research computer. At present, under a special grant from the Ministry of Culture, the library has a subscription until May 2011 to Ancestry. Library Edition.
